CROWNS & CLOUDS

This painting is created by weaving together two images. The crown has been a part of my painting since the 1970's as a young artist in Queensland. It has reemerged many times. In the early 1980s a created a series called the Crowning Queens, which showed at Rozlyn Oxley Gallery in Sydney.

The works explored our relationship to war and our landscape.

This idea continues in this work as the cloud of our landscape weaves through the crown. Crowns are by their nature exploitative symbols and marks of ownership. The work is imprinted with a challenge to land as needing to tell a story rather than be owned.

All works in this series are approx 1x1 metre. Inks, water colours on Linen. 2023.
